    About Lifts

Lifts are among the most common, frequently used, and important equipment used on agricultural, construction, forestry, oil and gas, retail, shipping, and other worksites, and for good reason. Depending on the type, a lift can elevate workers, tools, and materials to heights well beyond 150 feet (45.7 meters). They can also provide access to difficult-to-reach spots indoors and outdoors, and make loading and unloading a wide range of objects weighing tens of thousands of pounds far easier and more efficient. With the right lift, such tasks as cleaning, installations, maintenance, building, stocking, decorating, repairs, tree trimming, painting, and others are made possible—and much easier.

    JLG 460SJC Telescopic Boom Lift

MachineryTrader.com has for-sale listings for an enormous selection of lifts from a big variety of categories, including a subcategory of Other Lifts that feature stair-climbing machines, construction hoists, and others that don’t neatly fit into the following subcategories:

    Boom Lifts

Also called “cherry pickers,” “man lifts,” and “elevated work platforms,” boom lifts are a type of aerial work platform that use hydraulic lift systems to raise workers and supplies to 180 ft (55 m) or more. They’re available in versions with wheels and tracks and can support various accessories and attachments. You’ll find models grouped in articulating, telescopic, and towable subcategories.

    Bucket Lifts

These machines feature a semi-enclosed platform at the end of an extendable arm that can lift workers to heights beyond 70 ft (21.3 m). In addition to self-propelled track models, you’ll find bucket lifts that are mounted on trucks with hydraulic outriggers for greater stability and outreach.

    Container Handlers

Used at ports, terminals, railyards, and other work sites, container handlers lift and transport empty, loaded, intermodal, and other types of containers short distances. They feature designs similar to a forklift, and come in mast and reach stacker versions. Both types are capable of lifting tens of thousands of pounds and lifting containers straight up and down, but reach stackers can also stretch outward several container rows deep to place or retrieve a container

    Forklifts

Companies worldwide rely on forklifts every day to lift, move, and load and unload hay bales, bricks, equipment, and much more. There are more than a dozen forklift subcategories on MachineryTrader.com, with more popular types including cushion tire models ideal for indoor use, pneumatic-tire forklifts well-suited for indoor and outdoor operations, and rough-terrain (or all-terrain) models designed for uneven surfaces. Also popular are stand up and reach forklifts, which excel in moving palleted loads in warehouse settings and at loading and unloading trucks and trailers.

    Personnel Lifts

Personnel lifts are similar to boom lifts but are much lighter and more compact, making them perfect for accessing difficult-to-reach spots and maneuvering through doorways, loading onto elevators, and transporting from one jobsite to another. Also known as a “man lift,” “mast lift,” “pusharound,” “aerial work platform,” “cherry picker,” or “spider lift,” a personnel lift can elevate workers to heights of 30 ft (9.1 m) or more, depending on the model.

    Scissor Lifts

Equipped with crisscrossing braces, scissor lifts safely and securely lift and lower workers on a platform that moves straight up and down. Used in construction, factory, warehouse, retail, and other locations, slab scissor lifts are available with electric, gas, diesel, and hybrid power sources. For stable elevation in rougher, outdoor conditions, many crews turn to rough-terrain scissor lifts, often equipped with four-wheel drive, more robust tires, and (in some cases) external outriggers that help stabilize the lift when deployed on soft, uneven, or otherwise suboptimal ground.

    Telehandlers

Also referred to as “telescopic forklifts” and “telescopic handlers,” telehandlers have a raisable, extendable boom rather than a vertical mast. This allows them to move thousands of pounds of materials in both up and down and outward directions. Like forklifts, telehandlers can be outfitted with various attachments to extend their abilities.

    Tow Tractors

Tow tractors are built to tow extremely heavy loads behind them on trailers and wagons in warehouses, manufacturing plants, shipping yards, and on other jobsites. With their compact size, tow tractors excel at navigating narrow spaces. Tow tractors are available with both stand-up and seated operator stations, and battery-electric models are available as well.

    Find The Right Lifts

You’ll find thousands of new and used lift machines for sale on MachineryTrader.com, including from such leading manufacturers as Caterpillar, Genie, Hangcha, Hyster, JCB, JLG, Linde, Skyjack, SkyTrak, and others.
